I received Han appointments while building authority in Jiangdong. I died before the later Wu empire was proclaimed.

Lifetime

A life beyond one moment

  1. Youth and family

    I was Sun Jian’s son and became close to Zhou Yu while our families lived in the Huai region.

  2. Returning to public life

    After my father died, I joined Yuan Shu and regained part of his former troops; Han officials also gave me an appointment.

  3. Building a Jiangdong base

    I crossed the Yangtze, campaigned against Liu Yao’s allies, and brought several commanderies under my control.

  4. A changing relationship with Yuan Shu

    Yuan Shu’s unfulfilled promises weakened my trust, even as Han titles and orders continued to shape my public position.

  5. The last campaign that never began

    I considered moving against Xu while Cao Cao faced Yuan Shao, but an attack by Xu Gong’s former followers ended my plans.

  6. Death and succession

    I died at twenty-six and entrusted Jiangdong to Sun Quan, whose strength lay in selecting and using capable people.
